Gallo PintoGallo pinto is a traditional dish of Costa Rica and Nicaragua cuisines. The name gallo pinto means "painted roster". When the beans and rice are combined, the rice gets colored by the beans, and the mix results in a multi-colored or specked appearance. Nicaraguans usually prepare it with red beans while Costa Ricans prepare it with black beans.
There is a huge controversy on whether this famous dish originated in Costa Rica or Nicaragua. Regardless of its origin, this dish is an integral part of both their culture.
